Celebrating Harry Potter's 20th Anniversary!
This past Saturday was the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter and I just felt it was right to ATTEMPT a Harry Potter related crafts. Yes, attempt because it didn't work as well as I would have liked and it is not even complete. But I thought I would show what I was able to do. Of course, during all of this, I had to be watching a Harry Potter Marathon to celebrate.
I recently went to Harry Potter World for my birthday! My fiance had me believing she was taking me to Sea World but nope we pulled into Universal Studios! I had an amazing time and with my souvenirs I purchased I got Harry Potter themed grocery bags. I have been wanting to try this craft I saw with turning grocery bags into reusable bags by ironing them and these bags were a perfect front image. It took many attempts but I got it to kind of work.
The supplies I used were grocery bags, an iron on medium temperature, ironing board, scissors, and parchment paper.
I folded the groceries bags and cut the handles and bottoms off to make them into sheets. I piled 4-5 bags on top of each other and then the top layer was the Harry Potter bag.
Then I sandwiched the plastic bag layers in between two parchment sheets.
With a little bit of pressure, I went over the bags with the iron in a continuous motion for about 15 seconds. I had the temperature a little two high on the first two attempts. They were not pretty!
Third time's a charm is how the saying go and my last and final attempt (because I was out of harry Potter bags) was as good as it was going to get.
I can work with it even though it is not perfect but not all projects are perfect. I don't have access to a sewing machine at the time but once I do, I will make the bottom and other side layers of the bag and the handles, cut them down to size, and sew them together to make a reusable bag.
An added step that I did was put a few layers of decoupage on the Harry Potter image to give it some protection. This step is not necessary.
The key tips I learned from attempting this myself is make sure you have your iron on medium setting and you need to use parchment paper.
