10 Tips for Going Yard Saling

Alright everyone! I have been slacking again with posting but my life has been a little crazy with moving, my new job, and just getting kinda settled. But all that didn't stop us from thrifting and going to yard sales. Before I get into huge yard sale haul,  I want to talk about a few tips for going to yard sales because there is a method to yard sales. (Listed in the order I prefer)

Tip #1: Fill your gas tank the night before. You are already going to be getting up at the crack of dawn and you don't want to get up an extra 15 minutes early to get gas.

Tip #2: Have small bills handy! A lot of garage sale prices are low and you don't want to be that person that hands them a $20 when you only spent $1.

Tip #3: Download the apps called Garage Sales by Map (gsalr.com) and Yard Sale Treasure Map to get your research started. These two apps post yard sales and garage sales in your area. They tell you the address, the time it starts, the items listed, and sometimes even pictures of the items. The apps are great for starting your list of yard sales.

Tip #4: Do the research and make a list! The more options you have the better chance you have to find some good stuff. Search your local newspapers, Craigslist, Facebook, and the apps above to get a good lengthy list of sales.

Tip #5: Map out your Sales! Based on location and the START TIME make a list of the order you will go in. I always write out the address, time it starts, and what I am potentially looking for there from the list of items posted. Don't always determine your route based on location because sometimes you may have to back track because of the time they start. This point leads me to my next tip.

Tip #6: DON'T BE AN EARLY BIRD! This is for two reasons. One, people don't like when you show up before the start time. It comes off rude and then they feel rushed and panic ( I have been in that situation). The second reason is for your own good! If you show up early and they don't have everything out that means you will miss potential buys and you will waste time waiting for them to put things out.

Tip #7: Dig through everything! You never know what you will find.

Tip #8: Talk to the owners! Garage sales are a great way to meet new people and hear some fun stories.

Tip #9: Ask if it works. It's okay to ask to plug it in before you buy it. I advise it. You don't want to buy something and take it home and have it not turn on. Along with asking if it works, always check the condition of the item. The outside, the sides, inside, underneath, everywhere. You don't want to get home and realize the item you bought is broken.

Tip #10: Bargain!!! Yard sales are meant for bargaining. It's the fun of it. When I have yard sales I love when people bargain with me. However, don't be rude and rediculous with your amounts. If they have it marks for $5, ask NICELY if they will take $3. If they say $5 is they best they can do then figure out how badly you really want or need that item.

My all time tip though is to just have fun!! Yard sales are a hit or miss but when you do find something good it's okay to get very excited and jump out your shoes!
